EMC / EMI Test Engineer in Columbia Maryland

 

SUMMARY

Looking for experienced Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)/ Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Shielding Effectiveness Test Engineer that can test in a lab and/or field environment to various Military and commercial EMC test standards.  API-CAS is growing their EMI Test capability and business. Applicant should have the following basic skills:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-461/464, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-1399, MIL-STD-220, IEEE-299, ASTM F3057-16 and similar standards preferred.
  • Knowledge of typical EMI/RF lab test equipment (Spectrum Analyzer, Oscilloscope, Receivers, Antennas, Amplifiers, Multi-meters, etc.)
  • Ability to read and understand schematics and technical manuals.
  • Ability to create, read and understand the EMI test plan.
  • Install the Equipment Under Test (EUT) in the shielded enclosure in accordance with the test plan and current Test Standard.
  • Work with customer to verify that the EUT is operational and define failure criteria.
  • Verify that the detection system test equipment is in calibration and that it is operating correctly.
  • Perform setup ambient and calibration measurements and detection system sensitivity measurements per the applicable standard.
  • Be able to maintain and complete the test project log book and data sheets.
  • Conduct the EMI tests in accordance with the approved test plan and the current test standard as specified in the SOW, quote, and PO.
  • Assign duties to test technician as required.
  • Graph the test results using lab software.
  • Record the test results and report the results to the customer and lab manager.
  • Possible Perform EUT modifications, i.e. install filters, electronic components, shielding, etc. as necessary and verify that the EUT modifications perform as required.
  • Prepare the EMI Test Plan and Test Report as necessary.
  • Attend engineering meetings as required.
  • Able to use PC and be familiar with Microsoft Office software and tools.
  • Some travel may be required (minimal).
  • Must be able to achieve U.S. Government SECRET Clearance at minimum.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelors in Electrical Engineering (E.E./EET) or Associate's degree (A.A.E.T.) or equivalent from two year college, technical school or military training; and four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to reduce data using RF conversion and correction factors to calculate final measurements (Voltage, current and power measurements).  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Certificate in Electronics from accredited school considered with test lab experience.

iNARTE certified EMC Tester or Engineer preferred.
